Simple Ways To Create Healthier Breakfast

Personally for me, breakfast is a blank canvas. It's very personalised to you as it should be something that you look forward to as soon as you wake up. That's how my husband Marco sees his breakfast. Haha! And I totally agree!

Here are simple ways you could change your toast breakfast to a healthier one.

Whole wheat bread - Fills you up more as it has more fibre compared to white bread, apart from giving you more nutrition values. I love it and have been making more whole wheat bread recipes myself.

Seeds and nuts - Incorporate whatever you love, in any way you can. Be it in the bread itself or sprinkle them at the end. Sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts, your choice. Great source of healthy fat and protein.

Healthy fat - Like avocado, salmon, seeds or nuts paste, egg, extra virgin olive oil or any other unrefined oil are amazing.

Healthy protein - Salmon, egg, chickpea and even fruits like banana, avocado and kiwi are high in protein which means they help keeping you full longer.

    1. Turmeric Hummus Egg Toast

    Turmeric hummus egg toast

Move over classic hummus and make way for turmeric hummus! I'm not a hummus lover, honestly saying. But there's just something about turmeric and a touch of cumin in a hummus that totally convert me to a lover.

A good layer of it on a toasted whole wheat bread with seeds is just the beginning of more amazing flavour to come after. Soft boiled 7-minute egg is next. Followed by chili garlic oil and sprinkles of sesame seeds. Trust me, the subtle spicy kick will really wake you up!

Last but not least are the basil leaves. There's just something about their amazing flavour that completes the whole delicious flavours.

    2. Salmon Avocado Sushi Toast

I love salmon sushi and this is how I converted it into a toast. Think of your favourite sushi and use the amazing flavours and components to create yours.

I'm using whole wheat bread with seeds again since we both just love it so much. I find mashed avocado gives that lovely contrast creamy texture against the crunchy toasted bread, which I love. Next comes the greens and I opted for arugula for that spicy kick. But honestly, any greens will do, it's up to you.

One or two slices of smoked salmon gives you that healthy fat and protein. And don't forget your seeds or nuts at the end! I use wasabi sesame seeds.

    3. Tahini Banana Toast

    Banana tahini toast

We first tried this delicious tahini banana toast in a small cafe called Noat Coffee in Granada. I'm not so much into sweets especially for breakfast but after my first bite, I fell in love with it!

Tahini is sesame seed paste. Look for natural tahini paste that has nothing else in it, except sesame seeds. A healthy spread of it on a toasted whole wheat bread is our base. Then slices of ripe banana, and it's a huge difference since it's creamier and sweeter.

Lastly drizzle of honey and sprinkles of sesame seeds. Super delicious and it's the easiest healthy breakfast that you'll ever make!
